Memories to Heirlooms |
Years ago a client explained to me that she had saved her wedding dress and she wanted to include it in the Bearloom I was making, but she just couldn't bring herself to cut it. "I can!" was my immediate reply. I don't take cutting into such a special keepsake lightly, but see real value in finding a way to take it from storage and give it new life! This made me wonder how many people have saved their wedding dress but have not found a way to put it to use. Above is a picture of my Aunt in her wedding dress, alongside a ring bearer pillow I made to look like it was made from that dress. I placed six buttons on it, two for each pair of parents and two for the happy couple. On the back is embroidered all the important information from the day, and a pocket which holds the Story Starter booklet for the pillow. There are many ways to honor such an important piece of family history so that each family member can have a piece; a pillow, purse, tree skirt, Bearloom, etc. If there is some left it could be donated to the The Angel Gown® Program, which provides comfort for bereaved families who have lost their baby at birth through the gift of a beautiful, custom-made gown for final photos and burial services.
Feel free to contact me if you have a wedding dress that you would like to convert to heirlooms.
